1 Corinthians 1:26-29 (New King James Version)
26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29that no flesh should glory in His presence.
Reflections:
Is God literally calling His children foolish here or is He simply contrasting us relative to the world? Our verse states: He has not called many that are wise to the flesh. Rather He called those He knew would surrender to His will; those who would be willing to die to themselves and take up Christs cross and follow in simplicity and obedience.
And He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me (2 Cor 12:9).
Christians are not foolish in the sense of lacking knowledge or wisdom, but are perceived as so in their childlike faith and obedience to God. The world views this as weakness, but we who know the truth recognize it as our greatest strength.
Our strategies come from the Holy Spirit living within us and therefore we have an enablement to be Wise as serpents and harmless as doves (Matt 10:16). We choose not to glory in ourselves; We are to glory only in the Lord (2 Cor 12:9).
If this is being foolish, so be it bring it on!!!
