What is love???
This was a real question that was recently asked of me. It was asked by a wounded sister in Christ who had lost everything she held dear. It was all gone as if flash-flood had all of a sudden come and swept it all away in a stealth moment of time.
The fountain-head of her tears streamed convulsing-ly from a place so deep that no mere human words could assuage them. Amidst throbbing sobs she was challenging the very character and nature of God. �Why did He allow this happen to me� was her excruciating mantra.
As my wife wrapped her arms around her and held her tightly, we became acutely aware that all we could really do is just sit there silently so that at least she wasn�t weeping alone. We did not have the answers she so desperately craved.
Oh, we could have rehearsed all the Bible verses about God�s love and integrity, but those had already been spoken, over and over, by many well-meaning Christian brothers and sisters, but to no avail. The pain was so deep that even those bless�ed words could not plunge the fathomless depths of her pain.
God is the only one who can deliver her from that which life has dealt her. The devil has attempted to steal and to destroy everything she held so dear, while God is seemingly standing back allowing it to all painfully play out.
She knows that only God can mend her torn and broken heart and make it seamless once again, but when?
�Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed. My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O Lord, how long? Return, O Lord, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake (Psalm 6:2-4).�
If God was able to mend Joseph�s torn life and ultimately used it to save an entire nation � if God restored Job�s decimated life (that God used without permission to defeat Satan) will he not restore her too?
We surely do not understand the ways of God, nor will we ever (in this life), but one thing is, and must remain immutable, and that is � that God IS love whether we, or she at this point, understands it or not!
Perhaps in the meanwhile we can offer up prayer and perhaps some
