12 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.
Reflections:
Did you ever think about how we always seem to push the speed limit when were driving? Oh, come on now, you know what Im talking about! We all know that if the speed limit is thirty miles per hour, that if we go thirty-eight or thirty-nine miles per hour the police usually wont bother us. And so we push the limit.
In that Im guilty, Im certainly not going to condemn anyone else for doing so. But lets convert this thought spiritually. When we do we find that it becomes much more of an offence to God.
Moses in our verse today lost out on entering the Promised Land. More than eighty years of his life preparing for the moment was forfeited when he pushed the limit God had set. God said, Speak to the rock and Moses grandstanded to his own detriment.
Adam and Eve did it in the garden, King David with Bathsheba, and Ananias and Sapphira did it as the New Testament church was forming and it cost them both their lives (Acts 5:1-11).
Gods standard is holiness. When we begin to accelerate carnally away from holiness were pushing its limits to suit our own selfish desires to the detriment of our own spiritual walk with God.
A word to the wise is sufficient. I will say however that "whatsoever we sow we will reap" "When we know to do right and do wrong for us it is sin," and that "whatsoever is not of faith is sin."
Its up to each of us to decide if we want to push the limits God has set for us
