Jeremiah 12:1

¹ Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You; Yet let me talk with You about Your judgments. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are those happy who deal so treacherously?

Reflections:

Why does a loving God allow terrible things to happen?

I�m probably a fool for even attempting to answer this question, as there really is no answer this side of eternity that will truly satisfy the one who has been devastated by its consequences. The loss of a child or a dearly loved one, a very painful emotional experience, molestation of a child, rape, the list goes on and on. We are all very much aware of evil in the earth, but what is so hard to understand is why a so-called loving God would stand by, knowing what�s happening, and do nothing about it; even when we, his blood-bought children cry out to him. This is the thing we just can�t seem to grasp or understand.

If we�re looking for a full and comprehensive answer, I � we � simply don�t have one. So why am I even bothering to write this? I�m really not sure, but let�s see where it takes us � Let�s first take a look at the evilness of it all. If we�ve read our Bibles, we are aware of the wicked heart of man; especially the one who does not know Christ. Adam once knew God intimately, but Satan, God�s arch enemy, thwarted that relationship by ultimately causing him to sin. As a result sin and wickedness has passed down to all mankind. �There is none righteous, no not one.�

A clear example of Satan�s handiwork is that of our own country. America has far exceeded Sodom and Gomorrah in sexual perversion, wickedness, and in its attempt to rid itself of the consciousness of the one true God. Many young lives have been lost to drugs and the spirit of rebellion that so permeates Hollywood, our media and our culture.

This is clearly evil working in our midst. Earth is the place where Satan was cast out of heaven and into. It has been hostile territory to God ever since. Satan is the prince of the power of the air (airwaves). Earth is his turf, and God is the intruder -- the enemy. When Jesus came to earth �the darkness comprehended him not (John 1:5)�

It is Satan who has come to steal, to kill and to destroy. This is a very clear biblical truth and I think we all �get it.� But that nagging question remains, Why does a loving God allow terrible things to happen? Why didn�t He come to my rescue?
