Malachi 3:8 (KJV)
8Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Reflections:
When I thought about this verse today it reminded me of a situation in the Book of Acts. The Holy Spirit, working through the apostles, was doing miraculous signs and wonders and everyone was filled with great grace from God.
All the new believers banded together and there wasn�t any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. Barnabas, a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
Whatever their motive was, a married couple by the name of Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, for an offering to the apostles, and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? While it remained, was it not your own? and after it was sold, was it not in your own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in your heart? you have not lied unto men, but to God.
And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost and died: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. A while later his wife Sapphira showed up with the same lie and she too instantly died.
�Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.�
What can we learn from this:
� We can�t deceive God and get away with it.
� When we deceive others, we are in fact deceiving God.
� Many are sick and many have died because of an impure heart or motive (1 Cor 11:29-31).
God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor 9:7). If we can�t be cheerful and honest in our giving � it would be best if we didn�t give at all �
