John 14:8 (NKJV)
8 Philip said to Him, Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.
Reflections:
Phillip was being very sincere when he asked Jesus to reveal what the Father was really like to them. He was not just speaking for himself, but for all the disciples. Jesus response was like cold water is to the face of a sleepy man, Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, Show us the Father?
Jesus had walked alongside the disciples, preaching the kingdom of God as they went. His words were accompanied with glorious signs and wonders in a setting of wonderful parables and teachings reflecting the Fathers heart. He was the fullness of the Godhead, bodily (Col 2:9-10), and still that wasnt sufficient.
Perhaps Jesus answer to us is the same; perhaps we also fail to fully understand who we already have -- living inside:
Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world? Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him (Jn 14:22-23).
