Haggai 1:4-7 (AMP)

Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses while this house [of the Lord] lies in ruins? Now therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways and set your mind on what has come to you. You have sown much, but you have reaped little; you eat, but you do not have enough; you drink, but you do not have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages has earned them to put them in a bag with holes in it. Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways (your previous and present conduct) and how you have fared.

Reflections:

Some of us have got this figured out, while others of us still struggle trying to make ends meet. We typically try all the worlds methods of making money first, thinking that therein lay the keys to success, only to find out that it is a bag with holes.

The secret is to build the Lords house first and then our lives will be taken care of through the blessing of God (Matt 6:33). Christianity is spiritual and therefore spiritual principles must be applied to it in order to get the desired result.

The temple (the Lords house) is now our body where the Holy Spirit dwells (1Cor 6:19) and if we will take the time to allow the Lord to build that correctly we will surely be blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Eph 1:3).

Why is it that we always seem to choose the striving first for that which we already have in Christ! We must stop this and cease from our strivings, trusting only in the one who promised. We must ask the Holy Spirit to take full control of our lives, opening every door of our heart to Him. He knows that behind those doors lay some pretty ugly stuff, but dont let that deter you. He wont be shocked.

We must surrender all and allow Him to build his temple in us. A yielded, surrendered heart is the only way to plug up that leaky bag of our lives and allow God to bless to come upon us

Claire responded to yesterday's "Bible Portion for Today" regarding judging ourselves:

This list is something to be reflected on daily.  Thank you for writing this so I can place it in front of me each morning to be reminded that God's ways are not my ways and to access His promises, grace and mercy; thus allowing the Holy Spirit to have control over my daily decisions and  actions.
