Colossians 3:2-3 (KJV)ScreenHunter_01 Jun. 24 05.58.gif

2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

Reflections:

This is one of the best prescriptions I know for becoming a victorious Christian in every area of our lives. It comes in two parts:

  • You are dead

  • Your life is hid with Christ in God

That we are to be dead to ourselves (our old sin nature) as Christians, is without dispute biblically. In Romans 6:4 we read: we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Also see Rom 6:11-13).

To receive Christ as our Savior was a choice, as is to die to self a choice. The Holy Spirit will honor our desire to do so and empower us to die to self and to live for Christ. The only part we play in the process is to have a deep yearning desire for change, and to surrender to Gods will for our lives. The Holy Spirit will do the rest. All we need do is pray that we will truly die to self and then, just watch and see what happens!

Now, about the part where Your life is hid with Christ with God. This principle literally changed my life and took me from an insecure introvert to an over-comer in Christ almost instantly. All one needs to do is to choose to live in Jesus skin rather than our own. Sounds a bit strange, but isnt this what in Christ means!

I (spiritually) put on Christ (Gal 3:27) and receive His strength (Phil 4:13); desiring to see through His eyes, to touch through His hands, to feel with His heart, and to speak forth with His words -- to be inside of Christ looking out! This is where the Holy Spirit literally shifts our frame of reference in life to His, as I am seated in heavenly place in Christ (Eph 1:3).

As we cry out to God for these spiritual enablements in prayer, the Holy Spirit, through His transforming power, will automatically bring about the change. Remember, we cannot change ourselves by our own strength, so lets not waste our time trying. Lets just pray our sincere prayer and watch as the Holy Spirit does exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us (Eph 3:20)
