Finding People With Similar Interests

I have a friend who is in a group that gets together regularly called OWE (Oxygen Without Estrogen). This group of dedicated fathers and husbands realize that they need to get together for a bit of "man-time." It is not that they do not love their families but that they love them that they need a time of refreshing.

Women need the same thing. Whether it is coffee and conversation or power shopping, women need to have "girl time." You see God created men and women to work together, but He also created them very different in their needs. Guys  I hate to break the news but ...we just don't complete women (sorry Tom Cruise)

In the same way that men and women need support with people that think like they do if you are in a specialized area such as education, business, or medicine most people do not fulfill their need of "like-mindedness" so crucial for sanity to exist.

This is one of the powerful applications of the Internet. No matter what your passion you can find people who think as you do and have similar interests. I have a good friend who absolutely adores her Jack Russell Terrier. She will talk about her dog. This is not an interest of mine--but, on the Internet she can find Jack Russell groupies.

Although there are many resources to get involved with people that have your similar interest I would like to share one with you. With over a billion users worldwide most people are familiar with Facebook. You also may be aware of Facebook groups--this is where people of similar interests can hang out.

You can even create your own group or fan page. It is simple and quick. A basic page can be created in less than 30 minutes. So how do you get people to visit, like, and share your page? One is to like your own page with your Facebook friends. You can also spend a little money with Facebook to promote your site.

Another zero cost method is to join other groups of similar interest and invite folks over to your page informally. You don't have to get pitchy or buy ads, you simply have a conversation with others. The key to any good blog, web page, or Facebook fan page is good content. After all, it isn't so important that a million people visit your site if there is not good content to draw them to the page again and again.
