It is becoming more difficult to write content that is unique, content that stands out. There is a lot of content online and the pile is growing all the time.
1. Give value. Be helpful to your readers and potential clients. If you want them on your list, promote to them, or want them as customers, you need to answer their questions, solve their problems and address their needs. 2. Audience identity. You need to know who your readers and potential customers are. It's no use writing for the wrong crowd.
3. A Compellingheadline. Your subject line will catch their attention - or not. It all starts here with the headline as the hook. Only around 20% of people will read further than your headline. The good news is that at least 80% will read the headline.
4. Scannable. The sad truth is this: very few visitors will read your content to the end, and even those that make the effort, will scan your article. If it is not scannable, they will go somewhere else. Readers seem to be a dying breed it's better to humor them.
5. Multimedia. Use images and video, or quote an expert. Anything to enhance the article and to break the monotony of a solid block of text.
6. Quality content. Never compromise on the quality of your article. Develop your own style, angle and perspective. However, content need not be perfect to be valued.
7. Do not over-promote. It's better to keep the promotion low-key and concentrate on giving value, otherwise your readers may well depart and stay away. People are bombarded with online sales pitches.
8. Authority. Try to be the definitive source on your niche or subject or in the top twenty or so. Know or research your subject.
9. Goals. Always keep your business goals in mind when you create content. It will keep you on course.
10. Evergreen content. This is content that will still be relevant in the years to come - it will not become outdated. Whenever possible, go for this timeless content. Once created, it will give value for a long time and serve you well.
11. Write for beginners. If your children and grandmother can understand your post, it will be fine. Your writing should be clear and easy to understand. Short sentences are better. 12. Tone of voice. Try to keep it the same in all your posts. It implies stability and will build trust.
13. Style. Even though online writing does not require the same standards as writing a literary work, style is always important. Someone besides your grandmother may be reading your blog post.
14. Concise and to the point. Cut out the fluff and unnecessary stuff. Shorter paragraphs are better. Although research indicates that longer articles stand a better chance of being shared, keep the quality high.
If content is king, we better serve the master with quality.
Life should be fun - enjoy it!
