Remembering 9/11: 20 Years Later
(c)2021 Courtney Thompson
Remember 9/11. How could I forget! On the morning of September 11, 2001, I was an IT mamager for the City of Wilmington, in the state of Delaware at the time. President Biden was then Senetor Biden for our state.
I was on my way to the Mayor Jim Baker's office to discuss some system upgrades. I was walking by the security desk in the lobby of City Hall, where there was a TV tuned to the news feed channel. I was walking by about 9 am. The news reel showed a hijacked plane crash into the north tower about 15 minutes earlier. I had one of those: 'That's a cool Hollywood special effect'. Then they showed the south tower being struck by another hijacked plane.
Now I'm in WTF mode. New York (2 hour drive from Wilminton, DE) is under attack. I have friends and family in New York. Trying to process, but it does't compute. Why attack innocent people that are just trying to live their best life? The terrorists that did this, what were they thinking. People of all walks of life, religious and ethnic backgrounds, gone. And for what?
I fortunately, didn't lose any family, but I did lose a few friends who worked in the towers. They didn't deserve it. None of them did. I have nothing further to add. I just wanted to share where I was and how I felt about what happed September 11, 2001.
